  Johanas Herche ... travelled from Holland to England and then to America. He crossed the Atlantic on the ship Lidie and arrived in Philadelphia in 1743. He took his loyalty oath in September of 1743 and his name was translated in English as John Harkey. In 1750, he settled in Mecklenburg County, NC, and remained there until 1769. On August 27, 1764, John Harkey received a King's Grant from King George III for a Colonial Plat (or plantation) situated in Craven County, SC. The Harkey family removed from NC to AR and remained there until locating in San Saba County, one year before its organization in 1856." 1. "San Saba County [TX] History," 1983. 2.
